I took a trip back to memory lane of my experiences on movies and theaters when I was kid, how was my reactions to it and how it did affect me. Perhaps what brought me this nostalgic spark is that I recently bought a laptop which I brought along while travelling and as a resort to my boredom I watched some movies in transit. Oh boy, I completely lost track of time. Quite surprisingly though I was able to finish some movies but I have to watched it in successive portions as I'm compelled to(plane and buses have to make stops), and just like everybody else we have our personal thoughts, opinions and views about the movie.
The idea of expressing and inscribing a view about a movie has been a lingering thought for me since. It’s something I've always wanted to do but had a little opportunity and with little motivation. Not that I want to become a movie critique, for me it’s being done by professionals. They have this keen and in depth analysis, they tackle behind-the-scenes, factors of the productions, the technical details, the story elements and etc. They have a back-door access to most if not all stages of filmmaking. From Development, to Pre-production, to Production, to Post-product up to Sales and Distribution. They're the ones who takes an academic approach to films to understand why, how, what it means, and its effects on society. As for me, I'd like to simply to share my humble and modest view or personal opinions for the reel. A raw opinion or a value judgment from a simple and average movie buff that would somehow spark the interest and appeal of the viewing public.

Back then, being a kid its just uniquely plain and simple with just pure imagination we can be a part of the story. Stories that shows us the what IFs of the world being put in film and let us escape reality, well for couple of hours at least. How we can easily involve ourselves to be part of a fictional world and the same time easily ending it and wrapped the film without any baggages, but as we grow old such feeling diminish, this is seem what we lack most nowadays as grown ups(Perhaps only in my case). Now as years go by I seem to be very opinionated of every film I watched, perhaps as we grow up we just become savvy consumers, and we tend to be judgmental whether the film is worthy of our penny or did it entice our intellectual capacity, now there is always a price to be paid for our entertainment. With all this said, I’ll always enjoy the memories of my childhood, when I could view films on a pure abstract level.
Interesting though, my fascination with movies was unconsciously developed. In fact, when I was a kid I rarely went to the movies, I grew up with grandparents who were both educators and were very protective and selective of what I was permitted to watch. Somehow it turned out to be a mixed blessing after all, even though I didn’t go that very often; occasionally the times I did, it made the experience more unique and memorable.

My fascination started when my parents who worked abroad came home and brought around 300 betamax(sometimes called Beta) tapes. It’s a home videocassette tape recording format developed by Sony. With a poor signal and reception from National Television stations(by the I was still in the province back then) we were compelled to watch movies then instead of Television shows. Averaging at least four movies every weekend, 300 beta tapes are not much considering you have no alternative to your visual pleasure. So my Aunt and uncles rent at least 10 video tapes every weekend I'm trying to recall the name of the video rental shop but I couldn’t remember. I'll try to visit it though well if still there when I get home this December.
Whatever the case, I still have unparallelled passion for movies, I just love collecting them(some I haven't watched yet), replaying scenes that impact me in a deep level, quotes and phrases from stars, the twists and turns, the contrives of the film from the unreal and the unnorm, scenes that result humor and fun, outstanding act/performance by an actor for the character, great direction and production, all these that transcended the time and trends. These are the moment that satisfies and entertains audience intellectually or emotionally.
To some movie devotee or even commoner audience, a piece of advise, when watching a film try going back to the basics, take the film at face value to enjoy it, just be entertained in a pure or abstract level and appreciate it..
